We cannot be petty in our forgiveness. The
parable Jesus tells in today's reading contrasts one person forgiving another person a debt equivalent to 200,000 YEARS worth of wages. This person, after receiving such mercy, refuses to forgive a debt of 100 DAYS wages from a third person. The contrasting debts are meant to shock us.
Through the Blood of Jesus, our debt was paid in full - this is our VALUE! We have been forgiven so much, and yet we can be so petty in our willingness to forgive others: we hold grudges, anger, resentment, we gossip and slander, etc. May this Lenten meditation allow us to reflect on the infinite goodness of God, and fill us with the grace to address our lack of forgiveness.
