... a priest once told his congregation. He was speaking about feasting on the Word of God and it's correlation to fasting. Cardinal Seán reminds us that Lent is a "baptismal retreat," providing a great opportunity to deepen our friendship with Jesus and our understanding about what it means to live as His disciples. If we feast on His Word, we will encounter the merciful gaze of Jesus and be filled with the love of God; from this fullness we will desire to fast and detach from creature comforts.
I invite you to join me this Lent in spending 15-30 minutes each day praying with the Word of God, and fasting on Wednesdays and Fridays. I will propose daily Scripture passages for our feasting, as well as daily YouTube videos that will encourage and inspire you to pray and fast.
St. Jerome once said, "ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ." By immersing ourselves in the Gospels, and accompanying Jesus from the beginning of His Public Ministry through His Paschal Mystery, we will grow in our knowledge and love of Him, and acquire a deeper love for the Sacred Scriptures. As we deepen our love for Jesus throughout this Lenten season, my hope is that we will be inspired to undertake fasting with renewed enthusiasm.
God is never outdone in generosity, so let us Feast to Fast and make this the best Lent ever!
