“This is my beloved Son,
with whom I am well pleased" (Matt 3:17 RSVCE)
At His Baptism, Jesus, the loving and obedient Son, accepts the Father's plan that he should enter into solidarity with sinful humanity and ultimately the depths of human misery, in order to seek and save the lost. Upon coming up out of the water, heaven is opened (it was closed by the sin of our first parents), the Holy Spirit descends and rests upon Jesus (He will give us the Spirit), and the Father speaks with delight about His Beloved.
- Spend time imagining this powerful scene. One of the very few where all three persons of the Most Blessed Trinity are present.
- Unite with Jesus, and see the Holy Spirit descend upon you.
- Listen for the Father's voice. You are His beloved. He wants you to hear this! He delights in you!
